Once again the Republicans are doing an impeccable job of framing the Palin's-daughter-being-preggers issue, which I wish the Democrats would correct immediately. Say it with me: This is not about her child. THIS IS NOT ABOUT HER CHILD. Her child was never on the table. What is on the table is the blatant hypocrisy of an anti-choice, anti-contraception, anti-pre-marital-sex, anti-sex-education politician who wants you, the public, to do as she says, but when her family doesn't, she demands privacy and respect. What is on the table is the failure of abstinence-only education. What is on the table is that if abstinence-only education failed a young woman who should have been the poster child for the success of such education, it will never be successful to the public. What is on the table is that if Palin expects her child's pregnancy to be a private matter, she needs to expect that it be a private matter for everyone. What is on the table are Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates who want the benefit of a feminist political climate while blatantly opposing feminism. Good luck to them.

Under other circumstances I would never, ever, in a million years, say that a woman can't have kids and hold such a job. But with 5 kids and a Conservative Republican viewpoint of the role of women, the shoe fits in Palin's case. Certainly women who think more of women could do both. But she has shown that she does not. Seeing as she identifies her religious and social role in her family to be the primary caregiver to 5 kids, and help prepare for her child to have a child, she would not be afforded the time to do the job of VP. Surely her husband would be incapable of picking up the slack, being a Conservative Republican male, and all.

I'm done now. I think.

Well said Rock! It is worrisome that this would be the VP most likely to be needed - considering McCain is McAncient and McUnHealthy.

I totally agree. Since Roe v. Wade was made to be about privacy (this is my understand from what I've read, I could be wrong), her demands for privacy are very much on the table. While I feel badly for Bristol and her boyfriend, her mother's position on the issue is the very thing that ensures they will get no privacy.

Sarah Palin is just another big fucking hypocrite with an "equality for me but not for thee" attitude. You know, like all conservative women have.

This arguement makes perfect sense, but it is far too nuanced for conservatives to understand.

Also, you bitch, I checked my office mail today, I can't believe you gave me homework!

Rock, you forgot the part where the 4-month-old has Down's Syndrome. The nature of that condition is that it requires a LOT of energy and attention from parents; that's just how it is. And to a woman supposedly so committed to family values and traditional women's roles, well...how the hell is she going to juggle that into the mix?

PS: Can you please send this to the Anchorage Daily News as a letter to the editor?

Also, Palin does seem to think that the VP job isn't terribly demanding.
Check it out at 2:55 Now, maybe she's not serious -- I can't tell for sure. The interviewer seems to be taking her seriously, though. I guess that's how she'll have time to raise 5 kids, coach a daughter through teen pregnancy, plan a wedding, and attend to Trig's special needs.

Did you hear? The republicans are crying about sexist attacks on Palin! "How dare they" say that Palin might be a little swamped with 5 kids, one with special needs, and a grandkid on the way that taking on the role of Vice President might not be a great idea for her at this point in life, they "would never say that about a man."

Uh, actually, I probably would, except for the "her" part. That must be the media sexism they keep talking about, that we keep brazenly pointing out that she is a woman when we also point out how unqualified she is - oh, there I go again!
